Gold Team Holds Off Blue Team, 6-4
Nov. 19, 2005
Los Angeles - Senior Daniel Miltenberger threw six scoreless innings, scattering four hits while striking out four as the Gold Team defeated the Blue Team, 6-4, on Friday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Blue-Gold Series is now tied at 2-2.
Fighting off elimination, the Gold Team parlayed two walks and two sacrifices in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Gold scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Both freshman Jermaine Curtis and sophomore Mike Metzger singled off Blue Team starter freshman Robert Dickmann. Senior Josh Roenicke later doubled, stole third base, and scored on a groundout by Hector Ambriz.
Junior Tommy Lansdon and freshman Brandon Crawford had run scoring singles in the sixth inning to put the Gold Team up 6-0.
But the Blue Team came storming back. With one out, freshman Ryan Babineau started the Blue rally with a double. Freshman Corey Ashner and freshman Eddie Murray followed with singles. Senior Chris Jensen would walk, and a double by junior Tim Stewart would cut the lead to 6-4.
In the top of the eighth inning, sophomore Brady Dolan walked and senior Sean Carpenter was hit by a pitch to start another threat for the Blue Team. Gold Manager Hector Ambriz summoned Josh Roenicke out of the bullpen to close the game. With the tying run on first base and no one out, Roenicke struck out Babineau. Ashner lined out to Anthony Norman in left center, and after Will Penniall grounded out, the Gold Team survived to force a decisive Game 5.
The final game of the Blue-Gold series will be played on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. in Jackie Robinson Stadium. Junior Hector Ambriz will get the start for the Gold Team against junior Brian Schroeder of the Blue Team.
