Nov. 22, 2005
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Sasa Cuic had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead Oregon State to an 88-71 win over Prairie View on Tuesday.
Oregon State (1-1) used a 16-2 run during a three-minute stretch in the second half to turn a 56-55 deficit into a 71-58 lead with 6:19 left. Guard Lamar Hurd started the run with an inside basket and completed it with a three-point play.
Prairie View (1-1) could not cut the lead to single digits the rest of the way. The final margin of victory was Oregon State's largest lead of the night.
Prairie View's Philip Scott hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points.
The visiting Panthers opened the second half with a 8-0 run to take their first lead at 40-38 after consecutive three-pointers by Scott.
Oregon State, which evened its record after a 90-62 loss at Tennessee Tech on Sunday, got a career-high 18 points and six rebounds from Marcel Jones.
The Beavers, who outrebounded the Panthers 47-28, were without center Kyle Jeffers, who suffered a sprained right knee in the loss to Tennessee Tech and didn't play Tuesday. An MRI Monday revealed no significant damage, but he is doubtful for Saturday's game at Fresno State.
