Nov. 23, 2005

Tempe, Ariz. - The Arizona State Softball Team has announced five future players who have signed on to be future Sun Devils; the new prospects for the Devils span from all over the nation coming from Maryland, Washington, Oregon, California and Arizona.

The five future players for the Sun Devil 2007 roster include:

Caylyn Carlson - A 5'4' Shortstop/Catcher from Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona who bats and throws right. Carlson in 2005 was a member of the ASA 18 Gold Nationals who told 2nd place and also a member of the 18 U Boulder Independence Day Tournament Championship Squad. In 2003 she helped lead Corona Del Sol to becoming the 5A Arizona State Champions.

Katie Crabb - 5'11' from Roseville, Calif, Crabb was awarded in 2004 the Offensive MVP award and was also a member of the Sierra Foothill First Team All League. Crabb has competed on numerous ASA National teams and also won two Metro Championships with the Roseville Heat in 2002 and 2001.

Megan Elliott - A huge force on the mound, Elliott comes from Prince Frederick, Maryland where she pitched two perfect games in the postseason to help lead the Calvert High Cavaliers to the Maryland 2A Championship. As a junior, she went 22-1 with 21 shutouts while posting a 0.08 ERA for the season. Megan currently holds state records for both shutouts and strikeouts and is only looking to set better ones her senior year. Elliott was a part of the 2005 National Champion Virgina Shamrock team and was featured in Sports Illustrated while being named to the 'Best Class of 2006 pitchers in the nation'. While highly recruited by other softball powerhouses, Elliott is excited to be a Sun Devil where she looks to not only pitch, but add to the team as a field player and hitter.

Kaycee Gamez - Born and orignally from Arizona, the daughter of the former head softball coach at Central Arizona College and for the University of Oregon, Kaycee hails now from Oregon as a gritty right-handed shortstop, who bats lefty. A force at the plate, Gamez in her past seasons has posted a .383 average with a .543 Slg. and .468 OB Percentage. Kaycee has travelled as far a China for softball experience and turned down other recruiters to return 'home' to Tempe as a Sun Devil.

Ashley Muenz - A 5'4 shortstop from Fircrest, Wash., Muenz is a true utility player who is a hardworking, dedicated leader. While she is skilled defensively, her accolades stand as an offensive force, as in 2005 she led the SPSL in every offensive category while being named to the 1st team of the league. In 2003 Ashley was named Curtis Jr. High's Best Offensive Player while captaining the team. Muenz was also a memeber of the 2004 AFA state champions and the NSA state champions.

While these future Devils won't be showcased at ASU until 2007, the current Sun Devil stars and coaches will be in action this weekend as they kick off the Sun Devil Softball Camps, Nov. 26 and 27 with an all skills clinic offered for ages 8-18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
