Jordan Harvey Selected To Participate In adidas MLS Player Combine

Nov. 30, 2005

UCLA senior defender Jordan Harvey (Mission Viejo, Calif.) has been chosen as one of 54 college seniors on the initial list of participants in the 2006 adidas MLS Player Combine. The annual player combine will be held for the third consecutive year at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. from Jan. 12-15, 2006.

Harvey, a long-time U.S. Youth National Team member, saw action in 69 games in his four-year career and started all 20 games for the Bruins in each of the last two seasons. He totaled seven career goals with nine assists for a total of 23 points. He earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors this season after previously earning honorable mention acclaim in 2002 and 2004. He also earned national honors as Soccer America's Player of the Week after scoring two goals and helping the Bruin defense record a pair of shutouts in an upset victory over Stanford and then-undefeated Cal. Harvey was a member of UCLA's 2002 NCAA Championship squad and was part of the first class in UCLA history to win four conference titles.

The coaching staffs and general managers from all 12 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent at the 2006 adidas MLS Player Combine, which concludes five days before the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. The 2006 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 in Philadelphia, Pa. in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Of the 48 players selected in the four rounds of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, 39 had participated in the 2005 adidas Player Combine.

The initial list of players for the 2006 adidas Player Combine was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches representing all conferences, who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. Youth players from the Generation adidas program will join additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools and Division I alternates to finalize the 2006 adidas Player Combine. These players will be announced in the near future.

The 2006 adidas MLS Player Combine will separate all players into four teams and feature doubleheaders at The Home Depot Center on the mornings of Jan. 13, 14 and 15. Players will arrive on Jan. 12 and participate in organizational training sessions that same afternoon at The Home Depot Center.

UCLA has had the most players in MLS since the league's inception in 1997 and had a league-high 20 former players on opening day rosters in 2004. A total of 42 Bruins have played in MLS, and UCLA has had the No. 1 draft choice twice (1997- Tahj Jakins and 2000 - Steve Shak). Last year, three Bruins were selected in the first three rounds - Chad Barrett (1st round, third overall), Mike Enfield (2nd round, 15th overall) and Aaron Lopez (3rd round, 26th overall).
