Cougars Defeat Matadors 68-55

PULLMAN, Wash. - Keisha Moore scored 16 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Washington State women's basketball team to a 68-55 victory over the Cal State Northridge Matadors, Friday at Beasley Coliseum.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 5-1 giving the program its best start since it began the 1998-99 season with five consecutive wins.

WSU's defeated Northridge for the second time in five days. The teams met in the fifth place game of the 27th Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic at Honolulu, Hawaii, Nov. 27. Led by an 18-point effort from Crystal Blue, the Cougars prevailed 65-64.

Blue contributed eight points in Friday's win, one of six players to score at least eight points for the Cougars. In addition to Moore and Blue, Katie Appleton (10 points), Kate Benz (nine points, nine rebounds), Amanda DuRocher (nine points) and Nikki Stratton (eight points) completed the contingent.

Northridge's Krisztina Fuleki led all scorers with 19 points while Megan Ching added 13 for the Matadors.

The Cougars held an 18-13 lead at the 8:19 mark of the first half before DuRocher broke the game open with consecutive 3-pointers that gave WSU a 26-13 lead with 6:56 left. WSU went into the halftime break with a 40-26 advantage.

The Matadors pulled to within 49-44 with 8:41 left in the game but a 10-3 WSU run gave the Cougars a 59-47 lead with 5:40 left. WSU's lead would not fall below double-digits the remainder of the game.

WSU returns to action at Boise State, Sunday Dec. 4. Tip-off is slated for noon Pacific time.
