Soni Named Pac-10 Women's Swimmer Of Month For October

USC swimmer Rebecca Soni has been named Pac-10 Women's Swimmer of the Month for October, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Thursday (Dec. 1).
Soni, a freshman from Plainsboro, N.J., won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes in her first collegiate meet at the University of Pacific Invite. After winning the 100-yard race with a time of1:02.61, Soni won the 200-yard in an NCAA consideration time (2:14.76).
Soni, the 2005 national champion in the 200-meter breastroke, holds the New Jersey state records in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. Throughout the 2005 season, she was ranked among the top 25 in the world in the 100-meter and 200-meter breast. Soni won a pair of silver medals at the 2005 U.S. World University Games, taking second in both the 100-meter (1:08.77) and 200-meter races (2:27.84).
In December, Soni went on to post an NCAA automatic time in the 100-yard breast (1:01.47).
This is the first monthly honor for Soni and USC's first Swimmer of the Month all-time.
