Foluke Akinradewo, Kristin Richards Named To AVCA All-Region Team

Colorado Springs, Co - Foluke Akinradewo, the 2005 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, and Kristin Richards, who was recently named to her third All Pac-10 team, have been named to the 2005 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I All-Region team.
Akinradewo was also named the Pacific Region Freshman of the Year. Akinradewo, a middle blocker, is third in the Pac-10 and tenth in the nation with a .397 hitting percentage. Akinradewo is tenth in the Pac-10 in kills (3.92 kpg) and blocks (team leading 1.09 bpg). In Pac-10 matches, Akindarewo topped All Pac-10 players with a .386 hitting percentage. Akinradewo hit .400 or better in 15 matches which included a season-high .720 hitting percentage vs Utah State and .714 at Boston College. Akinradewo posted double-digits kill totals in 26 of 32 matches played this season. Akinradewo was second on the team in kills (439). Her 22 kills at USC was a season-high best. Her season-high 12 blocks at UCLA was ninth-best for a single match in Stanford history.
Richards led the Cardinal with 544 kills which is sixth-best for a single season in school history. Her 4.90 kills per game average is third-best in the Pac-10. Richards produced a career-high 35 kills ay USC, which is fifth-best for a single match in school history. Richards, who hit .272 for the season, tallied double-digits in kills in 28 of 32 matches, including a streak of 17 matches to end the 2005 season. Richards had 20 or more kills in ten matches. Richards was second on the team in digs (394, 3.55 dpg, #10 in the Pac-10). Richards collected a season-high 23 digs against Arizona State. Her 1,422 career kills is ninth-best in Stanford history. Her 1,247 career digs is fifth-best in the Stanford record book.
Stanford sophomore setter Bryn Kehoe was named Honorable Mention All-Region. Kehoe had been averaging 14.30 assists per game, #2 in the Pac-10 and #3 in the nation before suffering a broken hand which forced her to the sidelines for seven matches. Kehoe finished the year with a 13.14 assists per game average. Kehoe collected a season-high 69 assists at Arizona, tenth-best for a single match in school history.
Akinradewo and Richards were among 12 volleyball players named first team in the Pacific Region. The list includes Bibiana Candelas of USC, Anna Cmaylo and Caddie Perret of Santa Clara, Christie Dawson of San Diego, Kim Glass of Washington, Candace Lee, Christal Morrison, Courtney Thompson and Sanja Tomasevic of Washington, and Nana Meriwether of UCLA.
All 12 first team Pacific Region and Honorable Mention members will now be considered for All-America status.
