Nana Meriwether Earns AVCA All-America Honors
Dec. 14, 2005
UCLA junior middle blocker Nana Meriwether was named an AVCA Third-Team All-American, it was announced today. Meriwether is the 21st Bruin to earn AVCA All-America honors. This is the second consecutive year that UCLA has had an AVCA All-American, as Chrissie Zartman (Second Team) and Krystal McFarland (Third Team) were so honored last year.
Meriwether had one of the best blocking seasons in recent UCLA history, finishing with 43 solo blocks (second-best in UCLA history), 153 block assists (eighth) and 196 total blocks (fourth-best in UCLA history) for the season. Her .380 attack percentage for the season also ranks as the sixth-best performance for a season in school history. The junior from Potomac, Md., was also named first-team All-Pacific Region and first-team All-Pac-10 this year, as well as earning All-Tournament notice at all three of UCLA's regular-season tournaments this weekend.
Three full 12-member AVCA All-America teams will be honored on Friday at the AVCA All-America banquet in San Antonio, Texas. For a complete list of the 2005 AVCA Division I All-America team, click here.
