Trent, Ahmu Named To Freshman All-America Teams

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State linebacker Greg Trent has been named to the 2005 The Sporting News Freshman All-America second team, it was announced Monday. In addition, defensive lineman Fevaea'i Ahmu was a third-team selection while both players were also named to The Sporting News Pacific-10 Conference All-Freshman team.

Trent, a native of Keller, Texas, played in all 11 games this season, five as a starter. He registered 69 tackles, which were second on the team. Additionally, he recorded three tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Earlier this month Trent was named to the Freshman All-America second team.

When senior linebacker Will Derting suffered a knee injury late at Oregon State (Sept. 28). Trent moved into the starting middle linebacker spot the following week and responded with 10 tackles against Stanford. The next week against UCLA he led the Cougars with 12 tackles, one of three double-digit games on the season. He had a season-high 13 tackles against Oregon, including seven solo and two tackles for loss, along with a fumble recovery.

Ahmu , a true freshman out of San Diego, Calif., started all 11 games this season. He registered 26 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. Ahmu posted a season-high five tackles on two occasions: against UCLA (10/15) and the following week at California.
