U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week

ARIZONA senior guard Hassan Adams was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week following his performance in a pair of Arizona victories as the Wildcats captured the Fiesta Bowl Classic title.

Adams, who hails from Los Angeles, Calif., averaged 19.0 points on 17-of-34 (.500) shooting from the field. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals.

In the 87-51 win over Sam Houston State, he tallied 15 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and grabbed four steals. In the 86-81 overtime win over Western Kentucky, Adams scored a team-high 23 points, added seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots. For his efforts, he was named the Fiesta Bowl Classic Most Valuable Player. It was the second time in his career that he was named MVP of the Classic, as he also earned the honor in 2002 as a freshman.

This is the second weekly honor for Adams and Arizona's 65th Player of the Week honor all-time.

  • ARIZONA (7-3, 0-0)... Arizona is riding a five-game winning streak ... Senior F Hassan Adams earned Most-Valuable-Player honors at the Fiesta Bowl Classic for the second time in his career (2002) after averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in the pair of victories. Adams shot 50.0 percent from the floor (17-of-34). He joins Sean Elliott (1986, `87, `88), Chris Mills (1990, `92) and Michael Dickerson (1996, `97) as the only players to win multiple Fiesta Bowl Classic MVP honors ... The Wildcats also captured the Fiesta Bowl Classic championship for the 20th time in its 21-year history. UA's record in the event rose to 41-1 ... Senior G Chris Rodgers hit 8-of-15 (.533) shots from three-point range to earn Fiesta Classic All-Tournament honors. Rodgers leads the Cats with 23 treys on the season (23-of-67/.343). No other Wildcat has more than seven to date ... Freshman F Marcus Williams shot 14-of-17 (.824) in two games last week, averaging 16.0 points.

  • ARIZONA STATE (6-3, 0-0)... Junior G Kevin Kruger earned MVP honors at the ASU Holiday Tournament. He averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in a pair of victories ... Senior F Allen Morill is out of action for the year. He is one of only two seniors on the team and second on the team in games played (57). He had microfracture surgery on his left knee ... Freshman F Jeff Pendergraph is averaging 11.5 points and 6.8 rebounds over the last four games ... As a team, the Sun Devils rank second in the league in free throw percentage, shooting 171-of 228 (.750) from the charity stripe. Junior F Serge Angounou is connecting on 18-of-20 (.900), while junior G Bryson Krueger has hit 23-of-27 (.852) from the line.

  • CALIFORNIA (6-3, 0-0)... Junior G Ayinde Ubaka has scored in double figures in each of the last four games. During that stretch, he is averaging 13.5 points and shooting 12-of-28 (.429) from three-point range ... Sophomore F/G Omar Wilkes is shooting 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point range over the last four games ... Cal has used the same starting lineup in each of the last five games - Wilkes, Leon Powe, DeVon Hardin, Ubaka, and Richard Midgley ... The Bears have not played in Haas Pavilion since their Tues., Dec. 6 victory over San Diego State. Cal's next home game won't be until Thur., Jan. 5 when it hosts Oregon.

  • OREGON (6-5, 0-0)... Junior G Aaron Brooks posted the first double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 assists in the win over Howard. He has 17 assists in the last two games, averaging 8.5 assists per game ... Junior F/C Adam Zahn earned the first start of his career, posting 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds in a loss at Portland ... Also earning his first start last week was senior G Brandon Lincoln. He got the starting nod against Howard and responded with a career-best 15 points and matched his career-best with five rebounds ... Junior G Jordan Kent will slip out of his football gear after the Dec. 29 Holiday Bowl and suit up for Oregon's Pac-10 opener against Oregon State on Dec. 31 ... The Ducks are 6-0 when shooting a better percentage than their opponent. Meanwhile, the Ducks are 0-5 when the opposition has a better shooting percentage.

  • OREGON STATE (6-4, 0-0)... Senior G Chris Stephens had the hot hand for the Beavers last week at the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic. He earned all-tournament honors after shooting 21-of-32 (.656) from the field, 6-of-10 (.600) from three-point range and a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line in averaging 20.3 points ... Stephens has connected on 21 of his last 22 free throw attempts ... Sophomore F Sasa Cuic found the islands to his liking. He was 6-of-7 (.857) from three-point range in three games. Prior to the Rainbow Classic, Cuic was shooting 2-of-10 (.200) from beyond the arc in the first seven games of the season ... As a team, OSU shot 17-of-35 (.486) from three-point range during the Rainbow Classic.

  • STANFORD (4-4, 0-0)... Coach Trent Johnson picked up career win No. 100 with Stanford's win over Denver. With the win over Princeton at the Pete Newell Challenge, his record now stands at 101-91 (.526) in seven seasons ... Through the first six games of the season, freshman F Lawrence Hill tallied 11 rebounds, averaging 1.8 rebounds per game. Over the last two games, Hill has posted 17 rebounds, averaging 8.5 per game. He led the team with nine rebounds in the win over Princeton ... Getting tough on the defensive end of the floor - the Cardinal have held their last three opponents under 40.0 percent shooting from the field. In those three contests, the opposition is shooting a collective 54-of-151 (.358) from the field ... The Cardinal have won the last six in a row over UCLA, and the last eight in a row in Pauley Pavilion.

  • UCLA (10-1, 0-0)... This is the best start for the Bruins since UCLA's 1995 NCAA title season (that team started 12-1) ... Freshman Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has led the Bruins in rebounding in every game (11) this season. It's the longest UCLA streak since 1977-78, when David Greenwood led UCLA in rebounding in the final 13 regular season games ... Over the last three games, sophomore G Arron Afflalo is shooting 22-of-34 (.647) from the field, and 9-of-16 (.563) from three-point territory ... Sophomore F Josh Shipp will return to action this week as the Bruins open league play. Shipp had been out of action since Sept. 28 while recovering from right hip surgery.

  • USC (9-2, 0-0)... USC has won nine straight - its longest win streak since winning nine straight during the 2002 season. The last time USC won 10 straight was over two seasons. The Trojans won the last two games during the 1999-2000 season, then eight straight to open the 2000-01 season. Winning 10 straight in the same season? You have to go back to coach Bob Boyd's 1970-71 squad that started the season 16-0 ... Since shooting 0-6 from the field vs. Loyola Marymount on Dec. 10, junior G Lodrick Stewart has scored in double figures in each of the last four games, averaging 17.3 points. During those four games, he's shooting 25-47 (.532) from the field, 10-of-16 (.625) from three-point range, and 9-of-10 (.900) from the free throw line ... During the nine-game winning streak, USC has held eight of its nine opponents under 40.0 percent shooting from the field.

  • WASHINGTON (10-0, 0-0)... At 10-0, the Huskies are off to their best start since opening the 1975-76 season at 14-0 ... Senior F Mike Jensen saw his first action of the season, scoring five points and pulling down four rebounds in the win over Lehigh. Jensen missed the first nine games of the season recovering from a September shoulder surgery ... Lehigh shot 29 percent and finished with the fewest points for a Washington opponent since Jan. 24, 1970, when the Huskies beat Washington State 37-36 ... The Huskies own the nation's longest home winning streak at 31 games.

  • WASHINGTON STATE (7-2, 0-0)... At 7-2, the Cougars are off to their best start since the same mark to begin the 1996-97 season ... The Cougars have used seven different starting lineups in nine games this season ... The Cougars are allowing a league low 52.9 points. In their seven victories this season, the Cougars are holding the opposition to 47.6 points per game ... Sophomore G Kyle Weaver has at least one steal in each game this year, averaging 1.78 thefts per game ... Over the first three games of the season, senior G Randy Green shot 3-of-13 (.231) from the field. During the six games since, he's hitting 19-of-31 (.613) from the field ... WSU will host Arizona in the Pac-10 opener for just the second time. The last time WSU played host to Arizona in the league opener, the Cougars came away with a 74-68 win during the 1978-79 season, Arizona's first in the Pac-10.
