O'Callaghan, Philip to Participate in Senior Bowl
Jan. 3, 2006
Ryan O'Callaghan and Marvin Philip, Cal's two first-team All-Pac-10 offensive linemen, will participate in the 2006 Senior Bowl. Philip and O'Callaghan both played major roles in the Bears' ranking among the nation's top 10 in rushing offense during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Both players finished their Cal careers with the Bears' 35-28 win over BYU in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl.
O'Callaghan, a 6-7, 348-pound tackle from Redding, Calif., earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors the past two seasons. He was honored with the Morris Trophy, recognizing the conference's top offensive lineman, and was also voted Cal's most valuable offensive lineman. O'Callaghan led all Cal linemen with 38 knockdown blocks and finished second with 19 pancakes. He started 35 games in his career at Cal.
Philip is also a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 pick at center and led Cal in pancake blocks with 25. The 6-2, 305-pounder from Cameron Park, Calif., had seven pancake blocks and 7.5 knockdowns in the win over Stanford, which were season highs for a Cal offensive lineman. In 2004 and 2005, Philip was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, which honors the nation's top center. He was also voted as Cal's offensive MVP for 2005.
The Senior Bowl annually features the top senior NFL draft prospects. In 2005, 10 Senior Bowlers were chosen in the first-round of the NFL Draft and 83 players were drafted overall.
