Jan. 4, 2006
KALUA, Hawaii - With eight returning letterwinners and 10 freshmen on her squad this season, California women's gymnastics head coach Cari DuBois wanted to rotate bodies this season. That's just what DuBois was able to do at the Aloha Gymfest in Kalua, Hawaii on Tuesday night.
The Bears finished fifth with a final score of 189.350, with the help of 10 different gymnasts. UCLA (193.775) won the competition. Oregon State finished second (191.925), with Arkansas (190.652) close behind in third. Washington (190.425) placed fourth. Sacramento State (188.075) concluded the event in sixth.
'I was extremely please,' said head coach Cari DuBois. 'Starting out this year with the aggressiveness the ladies have shown, and their presentation was excellent. We've started out on a very positive note and we don't even have all our athletes in the lineup.'
California (1-4 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) recorded its best score on the bars with a 48.450 placing the Bears second behind UCLA (48.550). Freshman Lydia Williams posted Cal's best score on the bars (9.775). The native of Toronto, Canada also tallied a career-high 37.875 in the all-around competition.
Britani Pittullo also posted a career-high (37.900) in the all-around as she returned to action after three surgeries.
The Bears next to compete at Sacramento State on Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. (PST).
