Between The Bars
Jan. 6, 2006
Our season opener was an awesome experience for all of us - athletes, coaches, staff, parents and family. Hawaii was beautiful, and our team was so much fun to be around. They had such tremendous appreciation for the entire experience. From our visit to Pearl Harbor, to getting pummeled by the 'big waves', to competing for the first time with their new team ... all in all, it was one great experience after another.
The competition was one of the most fun competitions we've all experienced in a long time. The enthusiasm of our seven freshmen was irrepressibly contagious for the rest of us. They were nervous, excited, emotional and yet extremely focused and proud to be competing as UCLA Bruins for the first time. Our upperclassmen and us coaches kept commenting on how much fun we all were having competing as a team together.
What has been the most interesting for me is to watch our team's resolve and determination to compete with Poise, Power, and Passion strengthen upon learning that we would be without some of our strongest competitors for a while. We are a young team, but we are feisty. I love it!
Looking forward to our home opener tomorrow in Pauley ...
