Cougars Wrap Up Winter Training At Panther Invitational

MIAMI - The Washington State swim team finished its winter training camp on a strong note Friday earning wins in seven of ten relay events held at the Golden Panther Invitational hosted by Florida International University.

Top Cougar performances included Lina Daugvilaite, Erin McCleave and Kayli Changstrom besting the field in the 1500 freestyle by 12 seconds while Jane Copland, Elyse Peterson and Monika Povilonyte finished first in the 300 breaststroke with a seven second margin of victory.

McCleave also combined with Danielle Berish, Katie Van Horne and Jamie MacLeod for a win in the 400 freestyle, setting a pool record in the final event of the meet.

Other WSU victories included the 500 freestyle, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays. The Cougars added second place finishes in the 300 butterfly, 300 backstroke and 800 freestyle relays to top-off their dominating performance.

Washington State earned the highest points total (382) in the swimming events with Florida International (413) adding 85 diving points to its total to finish first overall. WSU finished second with Kansas (358), North Texas (306) and Trinity (287) rounding out the top-five finishers.

The Cougar swim team is back in action Friday, Jan. 27 as they host Oregon State at Gibb Pool at 5 p.m.
