Jan. 10, 2006
SEATTLE - With the start of the dual season just around the corner, Washington women's tennis will have one more tune-up to prepare for its 2006 slate when it competes in the Wailea Classic at the Wailea Tennis Club in Maui, Hawaii, Friday, Jan. 13, through Sunday, Jan. 15.
The three-day tournament features round-robin style singles and doubles play with the Huskies facing opponents from Northwest rival Oregon and Sacramento State. Action each day begins at 12:30 p.m. Hawaii time.
The Huskies open the season ranked 25th according to the first FILA/ITA Women's Tennis Rankings released today. Washington makes its home dual debut hosting No. 21 BYU Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon at the Nordstorm Tennis Center on the UW campus.
Washington is under the direction of first-year head coach Jill Hultquist who is joined by first-year assistant and former Husky All-American, Claire Carter. UW returns five letterwinners from last year's squad that recorded a 15-9 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships.
