Washington Men's Swimming Prepares For The Dallas Morning News Classic
Jan. 11, 2006
SEATTLE- The Washington men's swimming team prepares to take part in a five team competition this weekend at the 24th Dallas Morning News Swimming and Diving Classic held in Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. The Huskies will go up against No. 7 Florida, No. 14 Florida St., No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 16 Northwestern and host SMU, who received votes for a top-25 position in the most recent rankings. The event will be held on Fri., Jan. 13 and Sat., Jan. 14, with both meets beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT.
The competition allows a nine-man squad (eight swimmers and one diver per team) from each of the teams for the two evening sessions. The Huskies will only take eight swimmers because Washington does not sponsor a diving program. There are no preliminary heats, only consolation and championship finals.
The Husky men are coming off a loss to the fifth-ranked Arizona Wildcats and a hard-fought victory over 21st ranked BYU (105-100).
California won the 2005 Classic with 352 points. Florida took second with 313 points followed by SMU with 293. Arizona St. came in fourth, followed by Florida St. and Texas A&M.
