USC's Shay Murphy Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--USC junior guard Shay Murphy has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Murphy, a native of Van Nuys, Calif., averaged 18.5 points, nine rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.5 blocks and five steals in two games as the Women of Troy defeated Washington State and No. 25 Washington on the road. On the week, she shot 45.2 percent from the field (14-of-31), 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (8-of-16) and 50 percent (1-of-2) from the foul line.
In the 64-61 upset of 25th-ranked Washington on Sat., Jan. 14, Murphy shot 43.8 percent from the field (7-of-16), leading all scorers with 19 points, including 13 points, eight rebounds and six steals all in the first half. It was USC's second win over a ranked opponent in as many weeks.
In the 81-60 win over Washington State on Thurs., Jan. 12, Murphy posted her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 66.7 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down four 3-pointers.
USC (12-5 overall, 6-2 Pac-10) will play tradition rival, UCLA on Sat., Jan. 21 at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. The 1 p.m. tip-off will be televised on FSN.
The Player of the Week honor is the second for Murphy and the 32nd all-time selection for USC.
