WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington forward Bobby Jones has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 9 - 15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Jones, who hails from Compton, Calif., averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds last weekend, helping the Huskies bounce back from their two straight Conference losses at home with two wins in Southern California.
On Thursday, Jones scored 22 points, including 16 in the second half in Washington's 86-77 victory at USC. He was 4-of-8 from three-point range and grabbed nine rebounds in the win over the Trojans.
On Saturday, Jones registered his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 boards as the No. 13 Huskies defeated the No. 11 UCLA Bruins 69-65. Jones pulled down a key rebound and made three free throws in the final seconds to seal the win for Washington. Saturday's win marks Washington's first at Pauley Pavilion since 1987.
The trip marks UW's first sweep of the Los Angeles schools in 19 years. The Huskies (14-2, 3-2 Pac-10) have won all three of their road games this season, all of which were played in Southern California. The Huskies beat New Mexico in the John Wooden Classic in Anaheim on Dec. 10.
Washington will host the Oregon schools this weekend, facing the Beavers on Thurs., Jan. 19 and the Ducks on Sat., Jan. 21.
This is the first weekly honor for Jones and Washington's 24th Player of the Week all-time.
