WSU Tennis Slips Past Idaho

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Washington State University Cougars took all six singles matches against the Idaho Vandals and won two of three doubles matches to win the second of a doubleheader 7-0.

'I was proud of the effort and competition put forth by our girls,' Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'They battled in two tough matches today, and have improved so much since the fall.'

WSU freshman Maria Ring and tandem partner Amy Toth continued their success. The duo was paired up again in the No. 1 slot against Idaho's Kareen Konishi and Efrat Leopold and defeated them 8-0. Ring went on to win her singles match against Konishi, 6-3, 6-1. Toth continued her singles success and defeated Patricia Ruman, 6-3, 6-4.

WSU's nationally ranked players, Ekaterina Burduli and Marjolein van de Ven remained unbeaten in dual match play. Burduli is currently ranked No. 59 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and defeated Idaho's Mariel Tinnirello, 6-4. 6-2 to improve her mark to 10-4. The nationally ranked van de Ven, No. 81 bested Efrat Leopold 6-0, 6-4.

Washington State will now gear up for Brigham Young University Friday Jan. 20. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time in Pullman, Wash.
