California Falls in Home Opener to Oregon State

BERKELEY - The California women's gymnastics team posted their team season-high on the beam and had two individuals set their career-best in the event, but fell to Oregon State (193.950-190.750) in their home opener in Berkeley on Friday night.

The Golden Bears boasted a 48.075 on the beam, their best score in the event since last season. Freshman Lydia Williams led the Bears, posting a career-high 9.775 in the event. Junior Justin Cephus additionally set her career-high (9.750) on the beam. Williams finished third and Cephus tied for fifth.

Freshman all-arounder Jessica Kelley matched her career-high recording a 38.450 in the competition. She set a career-high 9.725 on the floor and finished fifth in the event. Kelley additionally scored a 9.575 on the vault, 9.550 on the bars and a 9.600 on the beam.

On the bars, junior Nicki Wells finished fourth with a score of 9.725, freshman Joanna Bennett posted a 9.675 finishing fifth and senior Britani Pittullo placed sixth with a 9.625.

The Bears will travel next to Arizona to face the Wildcat on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. (MST) in Tucson, Ariz.
