Mellouli Named Pac-10 December Swimmer Of Month

Ous Mellouli, for the second time this season, has been named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month for December, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Mellouli posted two of the nation's fastest times at the Texas Invitational at the start of the month. The senior from Tunis, Tunisia, won the 500y free in 4:12.18, a national-best time. His performance broke former Trojan and U.S. Olympian Klete Keller's 2002 NCAA-title- winning time of 4:12.83.

In Austin, Melloui also swam a nation's fastest 400y IM (3:43.66), before placing second in the 1650y free (14:50.07, third-fastest in the country).

Mellouli is next in action when he leads the men's swimming and diving team against Cal (Feb. 3) and Stanford (Feb. 4). Both meets are at 1 p.m. at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium.
