TEMPE, Ariz.- For the third time this season and the 11th time in a row, the No. 13 Arizona State University wrestling team faced a Pac-10 Conference opponent and walked away with a victory as the Sun Devils defeated visiting Oregon State, 28-13, inside Wells Fargo Arena Friday evening. The win improved ASU's record to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference while the Beavers slipped to 6-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-10.

With the dual opening at 141 pounds, the Beavers jumped out to an early 6-0 team lead as OSU's Kyle Larson pinned Elias Johnson (Jr., Manson, Iowa) at 2:35. Needing wins to cut into the deficit, the Sun Devils picked up three in a row to turn the tables and take a 9-6 lead. Pat Payne (So., Poway, Calif.) opened the winning streak with a 5-2 victory over Orlando Perez at 149 before No. 8 Brian Stith (Jr., Hampton, Va.) won the first battle of Top 20 opponents as he handed a 6-0 decision to No. 16 Tony Hook at 157. Patrick Pitsch (So., Spanaway, Wash.), ranked No. 12 at 165, followed Stith's victory with a 5-2 decision of his own, but, the Beavers took the lead back from ASU at 174 as Alex Pavlenko (Fr., Mesa, Ariz.) dropped an 11-2 major decision to Jeremy Larson, putting OSU on top, 10-9.

The Sun Devils took the lead back, this time for good, in resounding fashion as No. 8 C.B. Dollaway (Sr., Mt. Gilead, Ohio) pinned Kyle Bressler at 1:00 in the 184 bout. Bressler shot in on Dollaway before the Sun Devil senior locked up his opponent and turned him on his back for the fall. No. 10 Ryan Bader (Sr., Reno, Nev.) adding three more team points with his 4-2 decision over Dan Pitsch, the older brother of ASU's 165-pound starter, putting the home team ahead, 18-10.

In the second Top 20 battle, No. 4 Cain Velasquez (Sr., Yuma, Ariz.) scored a 9-1 major decision over No. 17 Ty Watterson at heavyweight. No. 7 Jeremy Mendoza (Sr., Temecula, Calif.) then rounded out the ASU individual victories at 125 as he won a tough battle by pinning Eric Stevenson at 6:14 to put the team victory out of reach at 28-10. The final bout of the dual saw Bobby Pfennigs score a 5-0 decision over Adam Hickey (So., Mayfield, Ohio) to bring the final score to 28-13.
