Jan. 20, 2006

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC's Ous Mellouli has been named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month for December, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Mellouli posted two of the nation's fastest times at the Texas Invitational. The senior from Tunis, Tunisia, won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:12.18, a national-best time. His performance broke former Trojan and U.S. Olympian Klete Keller's 2002 NCAA-title-winning time of 4:12.83.

In Austin, Melloui also swam a nation's fastest 400-yard IM (3:43.66), before placing second in the 1650-yard free (14:50.07).

This is the second monthly honor for Mellouli and USC's second Swimmer of the Month honor all-time. Mellouli is the first male swimmer in the Conference to win the award in back-to-back months.

2005-06 PAC-10 MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE MONTH: Oct. - Jonas Tilly, Jr., CAL.; Nov. - Ous Mellouli, Sr., USC and Hongzhe Sun, Jr., STAN; Dec. - Ous Mellouli, Sr., USC.
