SEATTLE - The No. 13 Arizona State women's gymnastics team (4-0, 2-0 Pac-10) remained unbeaten on Friday night, using season-best scores in the balance beam (49.1) and floor exercise (49.075) events to score a 195.175 and defeat the hosting University of Washington Huskies (191.475) and Seattle Pacific University (190.225).
Arizona State had the top three finishers in the all-around - junior April Boone (39.2), senior Ashley Kelly (39.075) and freshman Tia Orlando (38.950) - as it scored higher than 195.0 for the second consecutive week after scoring a season-best 195.3 in a victory over Arizona last Sunday.
'I was really pleased with how well we competed tonight,' said ASU head coach John Spini. 'I think this will help us continue to move up in the rankings. This will give us even more confidence to get to where we want to go.'
Boone's all-around mark was a season best and was the culmination of a solid effort which included a second-place finish in the floor exercise with a season-best 9.875, a third-place finish on beam with a career-best 9.875 and fourth-place finishes in the vault (9.825) and bars (9.650).
The Sun Devils had a first-place finisher in three of the four events. Junior Cassandra Jusino tied for first place on the vault with a season-best 9.9 and was also the top finisher in the floor exercise with a season-best 9.9. Also taking top honors for ASU was Kelly, whose 9.875 tied Kelly McDonald of Washington for first place on balance beam.
The Sun Devils return to action next Friday (Feb. 3) when they host Utah at 7:30 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena.
