California Track and Field Open Competition at the UW Indoor Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. - The California track and field team opened action at the UW Indoor Invitational in Seattle, Wash., on Friday.
The men's distance medley relay team of sophomores Alex McClary and Andy McClary and freshmen Jake Hanson and Mark Matusak, finished second behind Stanford with the time of 9:42.31. The time was a provisional qualifying mark.
The women's team of freshmen Mackenizie Pierce and Francesca Weems, along with seniors Bridget Duffy and Lindsay Maclise placed fifth (11:30.10) in the distance medley relay.
Also competing for Cal on Friday, were freshmen Artensia Young and Tifani Grimes in the pentathlon. Young collected the marks of: 2:30.46 in the 800m, 8.90 in the 60m hurdles, 1.58m (5-02.25) in the high jump, 5.70m (18-08.50) in the long jump and a 9.81m (32-02.25) in the shot put.
Grimes placed 15th in the 800m (2:36.45), fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.20), first in the high jump (1.70m/5-07), sixth in the long jump (5.37m/17-07.50) and 10th in the shot put (10.44m/34-03).
In the men's heptathlon, sophomore Steven Conrad finished second in the 60m hurdles (7.16), ninth in the high jump (1.88m/6-02), fourth in the long jump (7.01m/23-00), 14th in the shot put (11.88m/38-11.75).
Joining Conrad in the heptathlon, junior Jonas Hallgrimsson produced the marks of 7.69 in the 60m hurdles, 1.82m (5-11.50) in the high jump, 6.52m (21-04.75) in the long jump and 13.26m (43-06) in the shot put.
California will continue action at the UW Indoor Invitational in Seattle, Wash. The event is being held on the UW campus at Dempsey Indoor.
