WSU Announces Football Signees

PULLMAN, Wash. -- - The following high school players signed with WSU last year, enrolled in January and are currently attending classes:

1. EPPELE, JOE OL 6-8/270 FR Vancouver, British Columbia (Vancouver College)
HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Tod Bernett at Vancouver College a standout hammer thrower and shot No. 1 in Canada in his age group in the hammer throw and placed fourth the 2004 Canadian Junior Nationals...won the shot put and placed third in the hammer throw at the 2004 Provincial High School Championships...also placed eighth in the a JUNIOR on the gridiron, earned Northern Conference All-Star honors for British Columbia's AAA a SENIOR (2004-05) helped pave the way for a running back that approached 1,500 yards in 12 games...defensively, recorded 28 tackles and a sack...Vancouver College also produced current Cougar defensive lineman Jon Conlin...Eppele is the third British Columbia native to sign with the Cougars the past four years, joining Conlin and Adam Braidwood.
WSU CAREER: Originally signed with WSU in February, 2005, but elected to delay enrollment until January, 2006.
PERSONAL: Joseph Eppele...born December 8, 1987 at Squamish, British Columbia...parents Thomas and Carol-Ann Eppele...has one brother, Josh, and one sister, Carlin...enjoys music and outdoor activities...interested in a science-related major at Washington State...a member of the Kajaks Track & Field Club, based in Richmond, British Columbia.

2. WALKER, Greg WR 6-4/185 FR Los Angeles, Calif. (University High)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR: Played sparingly after transferring from Culver City High School, where he was a teammate of current Cougar receiver Michael Bumpus. SENIOR (2004-05): Caught 49 passes for 1,355 yards and eight touchdowns, earning All-Los Angeles City first team honors...led the Western League in both receptions and yardage, including a season-best 159 yards on four catches with a 70-yard score, in University's 30-27 win over Westchester...also had 60 tackles, 44 solo, as a safety.
PERSONAL: Born April 4, 1987...parents Teri and Greg Walker Sr.

The following junior college transfers enrolled at WSU in January and are attending classes:

3. PRICE, JASON TE 6-4/245 JR Denton, Texas (Sanger High '04)
HIGH SCHOOL: Originally signed with the University of Houston out of high school. JUNIOR (2001-02): Rushed for 1,394 yards and 18 touchdowns, earning All-District honorable mention honors...named a Top 50 prospect in Dallas Area. SENIOR (2002-03): Injured majority of the season.
TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE: FRESHMAN (2004-05): Coached by Mark Sartain at the Athens, Texas, school. SOPHOMORE (2005-06): Team finished the season season's end caught one seven-yard pass in the team's 24-14 win over Northeast Mississippi CC in the second annual Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic at Mt. Pleasant, Texas...used primarily as a blocker in TVCC's two-back offense.
WSU: JUNIOR (2006-07): Enrolled at WSU in January, 2006, and will participate in spring drills...will have three years to finish his two years of competition.
PERSONAL: Born January 18, 1985.

4. RABB, FINAS III WR 6-6/205 JR Orange, Calif. (El Modena High '03)
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended El Modena High, where he played basketball, but not football.
SANTA ANNA COLLEGE: FRESHMAN (2003-04): Played basketball for the Dons for one season...saw action in 13 of 26 games while scoring 100 points, a 3.8 ppg average...he also grabbed 126 rebounds. FRESHMAN (2004-05): First year of organized football after joining coach Geoff Jones' squad. SOPHOMORE (2005-06): In only his second season of football he was named to the all-conference second team...finished the 10-game regular season the team's number two receiver with 27 catches for 421 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns...he averaged 15.6 ypc...his best outing was five receptions for 81 yards, both season highs...he had four receptions in two games and at least one catch in each of the 10 contests.
WSU CAREER: JUNIOR (2006-07): Enrolled at WSU in January, 2006 and will participate in spring the fall will have two years of eligibility remaining in a two-year period.
PERSONAL: Born August 2, 1984...mother Rachel Jackson...

5. MADDOX, Kerry DB 5-10/175 FR Tyler, Texas (John Tyler High '06)
HIGH SCHOOL: GENERAL: Earned three varsity letters in football. JUNIOR (2004-05): Played cornerback, safety and wide receiver...named first-team all-league and second-team all-District 12 5A on defense, where he made 80 tackles from his defensive back position in 10 games. . SENIOR (2005-06): Team posted an 8-2 record, falling to Garland in first round of playoffs... A first-team all-district quarterback, he amassed 2,141 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns...also led team with 877 yards and 12 touchdowns, and threw for over 1,200 yards...did not play on defense because of quarterback duties.
PERSONAL: Born July 29, 1988...cousin Jason Stripling is a freshman linebacker on the Cougar football team.

6. BROOKS, PRESTON DE 6-3/245 FR Los Angeles, Calif. (Dorsey)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR (2004-05): Played for Verbum Dei where he recorded 10 sacks. SENIOR (2005-06): Helped Dorsey to Los Angeles City Section semifinals, falling to eventual champion Crenshaw 20-13...recorded 71 tackles and 24 tackles for loss, including nine sacks...also had 11 pass deflections...earned first-team all-league honors.
PERSONAL: Born November 3, 1988...mother Dawn Stewart.

7. HANNAM, MICAH OL 6-5/280 FR Gig Harbor, Wash.. (Peninsula)
HIGH SCHOOL: GENERAL: Earned three varsity letters in football under head coach Ross Filkins...named co-MVP on the offensive line at the 2005 WSU youth summer football camp. JUNIOR (2004-05): Earned second-team All-Seamount League Pierce Division honors by The Seattle Times. SENIOR (2005-06): Named first-team All-Seamount League Pierce Division in 2005... named to Seattle Times Red Chip list, Tacoma News Tribune All-Area team and 'Northwest Nuggets' and Washington Preps All-State team...received Pierce County National Football Foundation Award.
PERSONAL: Born November 5, 1987...parents James and Patricia Hannahm...Set Peninsula High power clean record at 320 pounds before senior season...3.96 GPA.

8. HOUSTON, ANTHONY WR 6-4/200 FR San Diego, Calif. (Mission Bay)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR (2004-05): Had 17 receptions for 410 yards with five touchdowns in run-oriented offense...on defensive side of ball had 54 tackles and two interceptions...named first-team all-Western League and all-city honors by the San Diego Union Tribune. SENIOR (2005-06): Led Mission Bay to 7-5 record and semifinal showing at CIF San Diego Section Division IV Championship...caught 28 passes for 458 yards and four touchdowns...caught 73-yards touchdown pass in season-opening win over Clairemont...earned second-team all-league honors...named to Tacoma News Tribune's Western 100 list.

9. MATTINGLY, ANDY LB/DB 6-4/222 FR Spokane, Wash. (Mead)
HIGH SCHOOL: GENERAL: Earned three varsity letters in football and basketball, two in baseball...ranked by as 16th-best safety in nation. JUNIOR (2004-05): Named Greater Spokane League Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-GSL...recorded 90 tackles with two interceptions as team posted a 5-5 record...grabbed 30 catches for 401 yards and four scores as a wide receiver. SENIOR (2005-06): Repeated as All-GSL first-team selection...first-team All-State...finished career with 231 tackles, 161 solo, and nine interceptions, all three totals ranking second all-time at Mead...offensively, had 41 receptions for 631 yards and six touchdowns...Prep Star All-American... named to Seattle Times Blue Chip list and All-State team, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100 and 'Northwest Nuggets', Associated Press All-State team and Washington Preps All-State team.
PERSONAL: Andrew John Mattingly, goes by Andy...Born July 18, 1987...parents Sam and Carolyn of nine children, two brothers and six sisters...plans to major in education at WSU.

10. MOONEY, TREVOR TE 6-5/235 FR Mission Viejo, Calif. (Trabuco Hills)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR (2004-05): Had 10 catches for 167 yards during season. SENIOR (2005-06): Caught nine passes for 101 yards, an 11.22 average, for a team that went 6-5...helped block for Peter Vallier, who rushed for 2,177 yards.
PERSONAL: Born August 16, 1988...parents Kevin and Michelle Mooney... An exceptional student with a 4.25 GPA on a 4.00 scale at Trabuco Hills, Mooney scored a 1900 (scale 2400) on the new SAT.

11. TURPIN, TOBY DL 6-4/242 FR Los Alamitos, Calif. (Los Alamitos)
HIGH SCHOOL: JUNIOR (2004-05): Finished season with 63 tackles and eight sacks as Los Alamitos reached the CIF championship game...also added two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. SENIOR (2005-06): Registered 58 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, including six sacks, five pass breakups and two interceptions...named Sunset League Defensive Lineman of the Year and received first team all-county honors...named as one of's 2006 Super Sleepers.
PERSONAL: Born December 14, 1987...parents John and Tammi Turpin.
