No. 8 UCLA Women's Track Team Heads to Idaho This Weekend

The No. 8 UCLA women's track and field team will travel to Nampa, ID this weekend to compete in the United Heritage Invitational, hosted by Boise State. The women's team, ranked 11th last weekend by Trackwire, moved into a tie with North Carolina for eighth place this week after a strong showing in their first indoor meet last weekend in Seattle.
Senior Chelsea Johnson, ranked No. 1 in Trackwire's 'Dandy Dozen' for pole vault, will compete this weekend. Last week in Seattle, Johnson won her event, jumping the No. 3 mark in the country this year, 13-3.75. Junior Kamaiya Warren, ranked No. 9 according to Trackwire's 'Dandy Dozen' in the shot put will also compete. Her mark of 53-0 from the Husky Indoor last weekend currently ranks eighth on the national list.
Also competing in the pole vault this weekend are sophomores Ingrid Kantola, Elizabeth Woepse and Nicci Faires. Sophomores Renee Williams and Leslie Rychel will make their first appearance in the indoor season this weekend. Williams was an indoor All-American in the long jump in 2004.
Representing the distance runners will be seniors Leslie Barrie and Allison Hall, sophomore Shantae McKinney and freshman Gabrielle Bournes. Sophomore Allison Miller and freshmen Lauren Correa and De'Lana Minnis are also slated to compete in Idaho.
In the first MPSF Best Marks list of the season, several Bruins landed in the top-5 in their events - junior Ashley Caldwell in the Mile (4th, 4:49.35), DMR (2nd, 11:23.05), 4x400m (1st, 3:43.53), Johnson in the pole vault (1st, 13-3.75) and Warren in the shot put (1st, 53-0).
