Cougar Tennis Blanks Gonzaga

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Washington State Cougars won all six singles matches and two out of three doubles matches to defeat in state rival Gonzaga, 7-0.

The Cougars only dropped three games during singles play. Captain Ekaterina Burduli, Amy Toth, Marjolein van de Ven, and Aleksandra Cekic defeated their opponents in sweeping fashion, 6-0, 6-0.

Burduli, a sophomore defended her Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking of No. 59 by defeating Gonzaga's Emily Anderson in the No. 1 slot.

WSU tandem Maria Ring and Toth continued their dual match play success. The duo defeated Gonzaga's Erin Humphrey and Courtney Lau, 8-2. They are now 5-2 overall, and has a 3-1 record in match play. Toth, a junior compiled her 12th singles victory of the season as she defeated Humphrey in the No. 2 slot. Toth has a dual match record of 4-0.

Junior transfer van de Ven remained unbeaten in dual match play as she blanked Gonzaga's Carrie Schofield. The Delft, Netherlands, native is ranked No. 81 and currently leads the team in singles victories with 13.

The Cougars will now gear up for their match against No. 55 Colorado. The match is scheduled for Lewiston, Idaho, Sat. Feb. 4 at noon.
