Arizona State's Emily Westerberg Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Arizona State junior forward Emily Westerberg has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 30- Feb. 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Greenacres, Wash., native led Arizona State to key home victories over UCLA and USC last weekend, breaking the Sun Devils out of a four-way tie for second place in the Conference. In a 79-72 victory over the Trojans, Westerberg tied her career-best with 26 points and nine field-goals, while grabbing seven rebounds and one steal. In a key 17-6 run that put the Sun Devils ahead 65-54, she scored eight points, including a clutch three-pointer to give ASU a six-point cushion and the lead for good. Westerberg averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists on the weekend.
Westerberg became just the second Sun Devil sophomore and ninth Sun Devil all-time to earn first team All-Conference honors last season, and also garnered first team Pac-10 All-Freshman honors in 2003-04. She led the Sun Devils and ranked 10th in the Conference in points per game last season at 11.3, and ranked third in the Pac-10 and 26th in the nation in free throw percentage at 84.9. A 2004-05 Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection, Westerberg was honored as a 2004-05 Maroon & Gold Scholar-Athlete for her academic achievements at Arizona State.
Arizona State (18-5, 9-4), will travel to the Oregon schools this weekend, facing the Beavers on Thurs., Feb 9 and the Ducks on Sun., Feb. 12.
This is Westerberg's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona State's 26th weekly honor all-time.
