UCLA's Kristina Comforte Named Gymnast of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA freshman Kristina Comforte has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 31 - Feb. 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Comforte, a freshman from Burr Ridge, Ill., became the first gymnast in the nation to score a perfect 10 this season, earning the mark on vault on Fri., Feb. 3 at Cal State Fullerton, with a flawless Yurchenko layout full vault. She also took first place on the uneven bars with a career-high 9.9 and was second in the all-around with a career-best 39.475. Comforte placed in the Top-3 on every event. In addition to her vault and bar victories, shetied for third on beam with a 9.825 and on floor with a 9.75.

Her scores helped lead UCLA to a first-place finish with a 195.925 mark, the Bruins' highest road total so far this season.

The Bruins compete next at California on Fri., Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m., before hosting Washington on Sun., Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
