Cameo Hicks Named To Academic All-District Team

Feb. 9, 2006

SEATTLE - Washington junior guard Cameo Hicks was selected to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII women's basketball second-team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Hicks, a native of Tracy, Calif., has a 3.23 grade point average and is majoring in business administration. She was joined on the Academic All-District second-team by Portland State's Delaney Conway (So., 3.98 gpa, Pre-health), and Northern Arizona's Megan Porter (Jr., 3.77, Exercise Science) and Nicky Eason (Sr., 3.85, Women's Studies).

This is the first academic all-district honor for Hicks, who was selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team as a sophomore. Hicks is the Huskies' leader in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg). She has scored in double-figures in all but four games this year, and 29 times in the last 37 games dating back to last season. A Pac-10 Player of the Week honoree, Hicks has been UW's scoring leader in 13 games and rebounding leader in 10.

Hicks also ranks 10th in the Pac-10 in scoring, as well as fifth in free-throw percentage (.887), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.367) and 10th in steals (1.67).

Hicks was one of five Pac-10 players to earn a nod on the all-district team, including first-team selections Krista Rappahahn of Stanford and Noelle Quinn from UCLA. Oregon State's Mandy Close and UCLA's Lindsey Pluimer were third-team honorees.

In order to be nominated for Academic All-District and All-America honors, a player must be a starter or significant reserve, must have a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and must have completed at least one full academic year at her institution. Voting is done by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). First-team All-District honorees make the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
