WSU Falls To UCLA 77-50

Feb. 9, 2006

LOS ANGELES - Washington State's Keisha Moore recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but the Cougars were unable to overcome an early double-digit deficit as WSU fell to the UCLA Bruins 77-50 in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action Thursday at Pauley Pavilion.

Moore led a trio of Cougars who scored in double figures as Crystal Blue (12 points) and Katie Appleton (10 points) completed the contingent.

Lisa Willis led a group of Bruins who scored in double figures with 17 points. Nikki Blue (15 points), Noelle Quinn (15 points) and Lindsey Pluimer (11 points) completed the quartet.

Right out of the gates WSU dug itself an early 19-2 hole, as the Bruins used a 16-0 run to open up their 17-point advantage just over seven minutes into the contest

However, WSU began to slice into the Bruins' lead, as the Cougars gradually began to warm-up while UCLA cooled down. An Appleton trey sparked seven consecutive WSU points, which closed the Cougars' deficit to 10 at 19-9. After a Nikki Blue bucket, WSU outscored the Bruins 10-4 to close to within 25-19 with five minutes left.

UCLA managed to re-establish its double-digits advantage heading in to the halftime break. Blue, who finished the first half with nine points, accounted for the Bruins' final seven points of the opening 20 minutes as UCLA took a 34-23 lead at the half.

UCLA immediately extended its advantage as Quinn opened the second half with a 3-point play to extend UCLA's lead to 14. The Cougars closed to 12 on several occasions but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.

WSU returns to action, Saturday, Feb. 11 at USC for a 2 p.m. tip.
