Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - The UCLA offense continued to shine in the 2006 season on Saturday night at the SDSU Softball Stadium as the Bruins posted a six-inning run-rule victory over UMass by an 8-0 margin. Junior centerfielder Tara Henry went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI in the game, while sophomore pitcher Anjelica Selden had 13 strikeouts and no walks in the one-hit shutout.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Andrea Duran drew a leadoff walk, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and came home on a Caitlin Benyi single.

Three more runs were plated in the fourth inning as Jodie Legaspi led off the inning with a first-pitch single through the left side and went to second on an infield single by Lisa Dodd. Jaisa Creps then put down a sacrifice bunt and the Minutewomen went for the lead runner, Legaspi, at third base, but the throw was errant, allowing Legaspi to score and pinch-runner Alissa Eno to advance to third while Creps went to second on the play. Eno would score on another infield single, this time by Alissa Eno, and Creps came in on a sacrifice fly by Tara Henry to give the Bruins a 4-0 lead.

Benyi led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run to left, her second of the season, to extend the lead to five runs.

Creps led off the sixth with a double down the left field line, followed by an infield single from Ashley Herrera. The pair came home on a triple to right field by Tara Henry, bringing the lead to 7-0. Henry would score to end the game on an Andrea Duran hit that by rule was a single.

The Bruins conclude Campbell/Cartier play on Sunday afternoon with a scheduled 1 pm first pitch against host San Diego State.
