Stanford Moves Past New Mexico, 3-2

Phoenix, Ariz. - No. 7 Stanford (3-0) opened the second day of the Kajikawa Classic with a 3-2 win over New Mexico this morning. Catalina Morris and Maddy Coon knocked in a run each for the Cardinal, while Becky McCullough pitched her first complete game of the season.

Stanford got off to a 1-0 start in the first inning as Coon hit an RBI single up the middle, scoring Morris. McCullough struck out two batters to end the inning.

Both teams completed three scoreless innings until Missy Penna scored in the fifth inning off of a passed ball. Morris followed with an RBI single, scoring Tricia Aggabao. McCullough struck out two more batters and Stanford ended the fifth inning up, 3-0.

In the seventh inning, New Mexico's Cassie Chavez got on base with a single to third base. Pinch hitter Lindsey Elcess scored both runners for the Lobos with a home run to center field. McCullough struck out two more batters in the seventh and Stanford finished the game ahead, 3-2.

Morris ended the game 2-3 at the plate with one run and an RBI. McCullough pitched her first complete game of the season, striking out nine batters, walking two and allowing only two runs.

Stanford returns to action tomorrow at 9:00 am versus No. 4 Texas at the Kajikawa Classic.
