Trojans Tied For Second, Moreno Tied For Fourth After Northrop Grumman First Round

Behind sophomore Paola Moreno's strong first day, the No. 8 USC women's golf team finished tied for second after the first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Monday (Feb. 13) at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.

The No. 8 Women of Troy, competing for the first time in the spring semester, fired a combined 296 (+12), tying with California. No. 9 Arizona State leads the 14-team field at 293 (+9).

Moreno led all Trojans with a 72 (+1), good for a tie for fourth, two shots off the lead. After an uneventful front 9 with nine pars, she posted four birdies, a bogey and two double bogeys on the back 9.

Junior Catalina Marin finished tied for 11th with a 74 (+3) while senior Irene Cho and junior Veronica Felibert both finished a shot back at 75 (+4), tied for 15th. Sophomore Dewi-Claire Schreefel rounded out the Trojan five-some playing in the team competition with a 78 (+7), tied for 39th.

In addition to the above players, sophomore Stephanie Hickerson and freshman Shelcie Takenouchi competed as individuals. Hickerson was among the leaders for most of the first round before finishing tied for 24th with a 76 (+5). Takenouchi finished with an 80 (+9).

Tuesday's round is set for a 9 a.m. start while the final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. Live scoring is available at
