UCLA freshman Ariana Berlin has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 6 - Feb. 12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Berlin, a freshman walk-on from Del Cerro, Calif., who is competing in gymnastics for the first time since 2001 (she retired from the sport at age 14 after a serious car accident), has competed in the all-around in UCLA's last five meets and improved upon her total in each meet. She has hit every single routine she has competed in this season, going 26-for-26. No other UCLA gymnast has hit as many routines without a fall this year.

In a quad meet at California on Feb. 10, Berlin placed second in the all-around with a then-personal-best 39.075 to help the Bruins achieve a season-high team score of 196.5. Berlin scored a career-high 9.8 on bars and tied her career-best with a 9.775 on floor to place seventh (she broke that mark two days later against Washington). She also added scores of 9.8 on vault and 9.7 on beam.

On Feb. 12 against Washington, Berlin won the first all-around title of her collegiate career, scoring a career-best 39.2 to take first-place honors. She earned scores of 9.825 on vault, 9.75 on bars, a career-high 9.775 on beam in the leadoff position, and 9.85 on floor (career-high, tied for second place). Her scores helped UCLA win the meet, 195.55-193.2.

UCLA has won five consecutive meets and is undefeated since Berlin started competing in the all-around.

The Bruins (12-1) will next face top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Georgia in Athens on Feb. 17, before returning home to host Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis on Feb. 19.
