Feb. 13, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior guard Noelle Quinn has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Los Angeles, Calif., native led UCLA to a weekend sweep of the Washington schools that catapulted the Bruins into third place in the Pac-10 standings. In the Bruins' 77-50 win over the Cougars, she had 15 points and helped UCLA limit Washington State to an opponent season-low 50 points. In the 83-75 win over Washington, she scored a game-high 23 points and nearly recorded a triple-double, adding nine assists and eight rebounds.
Quinn, who this week was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, has scored 20 or more points in seven of her last eight games, with the Bruins recording a 6-2 record in those contests and moving from sixth place in the Conference up to third. In those eight games, she is averaging 23.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists, while shooting 56.1 percent from the field.
With her 38 points on the weekend, Quinn moved into 18th place on UCLA's all-time scoring list with 1,140 career points.
UCLA (15-9, 10-5), hosts cross-town rival USC on Sat., Feb. 18.
This is Quinn's eighth Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and UCLA's 36th weekly honor all-time. Quinn now ties the record for the most all-time career Player of the Week honors with OSU's Tanja Kostic, USC's Lisa Leslie, USC's Cherie Nelson and fellow Bruin, Natalie Williams.
