USC's Hankerd, Washington State's Daman, Jr.Named Pac-10 Baseball Player/Pitcher of the Week.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC junior outfielder Cyle Hankerd has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON STATE junior right-handed pitcher Wayne Daman, Jr. has been named Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Hankerd, from Covina, Calif., went 10-for-18 (.556) with three doubles, two stolen bases, two home runs and eight RBI (1.056 slugging percentage) in the Trojans' win at UC Riverside and three-game sweep of Florida International. On Tuesday, Hankerd went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in USC's 13-10 win at UC Riverside. On Sunday, he went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI to close out the sweep of the Golden Panthers. Hankerd has opened 2006 with a seven-game hitting streak and currently leads the Trojans with a .500 batting average and 12 RBI.
Daman, Jr., from Beaver, Wash., opened the Cougar's 2006 season by throwing six shutout innings against East Tennessee State. He scattered only two singles and did not allow any runs or walks. The junior RHP registered a career-high nine strikeouts on the way to Washington State's 8-2 victory over the Buccaneers. He retired the first ten batters and 13 of the first 14.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Hankerd's career, while it is the 52nd such honor for USC. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Daman, Jr., and the 26th selection all-time for Washington State.
