Feb. 14, 2006
PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior right-handed pitcher Wayne Daman, Jr. has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.
Daman, Jr., from Beaver, Wash., opened the Cougar's 2006 season by throwing six shutout innings in the Cougars' 8-2 victory over East Tennessee State. He scattered only two singles and did not walk a batter as he registered a career-high nine strikeouts. Daman retired the first ten batters he faced and 13 of the first 14, not allowing a runner past second base. In his six innings of work, Daman, Jr. retired the side in order four times.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Daman, Jr., and the 26th selection all-time for Washington State. The last Cougar pitcher to receive the honor was Garrett Alwert, who captured the award April 20, 2004.
