Stanford, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Missy Penna struck out 11 batters and allowed only two hits to lead Stanford to a 5-0 victory over Drake at the Stanford Invitational I. Senior outfielder Catalina Morris hit her second home run of the season with two RBI.

Stanford and Drake went through two scoreless innings until the bottom of the third. Cardinal right fielder Anna Beardman got on base with a single up the middle. Morris followed with a home run to right center, also scoring Beardman. Sophomore third baseman Michelle Smith knocked a double to left center, scoring senior Lauren Lappin who was walked on base. Sophomore first baseman Erin Howe then hit an RBI single to score Smith and Stanford ended the inning ahead, 4-0.

The Cardinal scored again in the fifth inning, when Penna hit home Jackie Rinehart after Rinehart reached on a walk. Stanford continued to hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the final two innings of the game.

In seven innings in the circle, Penna struck out 11 batters and allowed only two hits. This was Penna's second game in double digits for strikeouts. She struck out 13 batters in seven innings versus Nevada last weekend.

Morris' home run and two RBI bring her season total to team-leading nine RBI. Penna improves her pitching record to 3-1 this season.

The Cardinal will return to the field tomorrow at 1:30 pm against the Drake Bulldogs.
