Softball Nabs Second Win Of The Day Against Birmingham-Southern, 8-0

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early, 8-0, against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers. Senior catcher Lauren Lappin was 4-4 at the plate with three runs and one RBI. Freshman pitcher Missy Penna struck out five batters in six innings and allowed only one hit.

Smith got the Cardinal scoring started in the first inning with an RBI single, scoring Lauren Lappin who reached with a single. Stanford scored again in the third inning with an RBI single up the middle by freshman shortstop Maddy Coon, knocking home Lappin who got on base with a triple to right center. Smith hit a double up the middle, advancing Coon to third. Coon and Smith both scored off of an error and Stanford closed the inning ahead, 4-0.

Smith collected another double in the fifth inning, advancing Lappin who scored on an error. Stanford scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early. Sophomore second baseman Tricia Aggabao singled to the shortstop to get on base and advanced with a single from Beardman to left field. Morris reached on a fielder's choice and Aggabao and Beardman advanced. Lappin hit an RBI single to left center, scoring Aggabao. Coon ended the game with a two RBI single to right center, scoring Beardman and Morris.

Smith ended the night 3-3 with with one run and one RBI and Coon was 2-4 at the plate with one run and three RBI.

The Cardinal will begin the last day of the Stanford Invitational I tomorrow at 11:30 am versus Sacramento State.
