Cardinal Wins Fifth-Straight Against Santa Clara, 4-0

Stanford, Calif. - Maddy Coon and Catalina Morris both homered to lead Stanford past Santa Clara, 4-0, in the final game of the Stanford Invitational I. Sophomore Becky McCullough nabbed her third win of the season in the circle.

Both teams went through three innings scoreless until the Cardinal tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Junior shortstop Lauren Lappin was walked to first and Maddy Coon knocked her home with a deep home run over the left field fence and a neighboring roof.

In the fifth inning, sophomore right fielder Anna Beardman got on base with a double to left field. Senior Catalina Morris then slammed a home run over the center field fence to score both runners. Stanford remained ahead, 4-0, for the rest of the game.

Sophomore Becky McCullough struck out six batters in six innings in the circle, allowing only two hits and no walks. Senior Laura Severson finished the seventh inning with no hits and no walks.

The Cardinal returns to action versus Texas Tech on Thursday, February 23 (8:30pm) at the Palm Springs Classic.
