No. 6 Cal Upset by No. 17 UCLA

Los Angeles, Calif. - The sixth-ranked California women's tennis team fell to No. 17 UCLA, 4-3, Sunday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bears drop to 6-3, while UCLA improves to 5-2.

Sunday's match was rescheduled from Friday, when play was suspended because of rain with the Bruins leading the Bears 1-0, after winning the doubles point. In addition UCLA had taken the first set in three singles matches when play was postponed.

Despite the loss, the Bears tallied three victories in the No. 1, 2 and 5 positions. 19th-ranked Zsuzsanna Fodor defeated Riza Zalameda, 6-4, 7-5, playing No. 1 singles. 14th-ranked Suzi Babos also recorded a victory for the Bears in the No. 2 position, outlasting No. 94 Laura Gordon, 6-2, 6-2. 92nd-ranked Cristina Visico defeated 99th-ranked Ashley Joelson, 7-6, 6-1. Cal dropped three other matches on the singles court.

The Bears travels to the Northwest next weekend to face Washington and Washington State.
