Ian Kennedy Earns National Pitcher Of The Week Honors
Feb. 20, 2006
LOS ANGELES -- USC junior All-America pitcher Ian Kennedy (Huntington Beach/La Quinta HS) has been named National Pitcher of the Week by The Rosenblatt Report. Kennedy was one out away from a no-hitter Friday as the Trojans defeated Kansas, 10-1, at the Public Storage Baseball Classic.
After a 40-minute rain delay during the game, Kennedy allowed a walk before retiring 13 straight batters. With two outs in the ninth, Ritchie Price spoiled Kennedy's bid at history with a single to center. Kennedy (2-1) allowed one unearned run on a hit with three walks. It was the 10th time in his career that Kennedy has registered double digits in strikeouts.
He became the seventh Trojan in history to record 300 or more strikeouts in his career (Kennedy now has 308 career strikeouts). In three starts this season, Kennedy is now 2-1 with a 1.25 ERA (9 H, 3 ER, 6 BB, 30 SO, .127 opponents' batting average).
