RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Bruins softball team took home a 2-0 victory from a visit to UC Riverside on Tuesday afternoon. Andrea Duran went 2-for-2 with both RBI in the game while Lisa Dodd struck out five while pitching a shutout.

UCLA took the lead in the top of the third inning as Tara Henry drew a full-count walk to lead off the inning. Henry then stole second base and an errant throw from the catcher allowed her to advance to third on the play. Andrea Duran then hit a ball to the outfield fence in left field that was caught for an out but was able to score Henry for a sacrifice fly and a 1-0 Bruin lead.

In the fifth inning, Ashley Herrera drew a one-out walk, stole second and went to third on a fly-out by Tara Henry. A two-out double from Duran would plate Herrera, doubling the Bruin lead to 2-0.

UC Riverside rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning on a one-out walk by Cassie Greenawalt. Jennifer Thompson then reached on a ball hit just shy of the bag at second base that was nearly caught by a diving Jodie Legaspi. Jessica Black then grounded into a double play with UCLA 3B Andrea Duran able to get the force out at third base before throwing across to first base to end the inning.

The Highlanders rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning, notching singles from Thompson and Jessica Black to lead off the inning. Krystal Marquez then dropped down a sacrifice bunt and the Bruins went for the lead runner at third base, but the throw was fraction late, leaving the bases loaded with no outs. Bruin pitcher Lisa Dodd got Hailey Marshall, who had gone 2-for-2 on the day, to ground back to Dodd, who got the force out at the plate for the first out of the inning. A strikeout to April Murray recorded the second out of the inning, bringing Jamie Yee to the plate. Yee grounded back to Dodd to end the inning and the game.

The Bruins return to action this weekend at the Palm Springs Classic where they will face Ohio State, LSU, Kansas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. The Oklahoma game will be televised live by ESPNU. The tournament is hosted by Oregon State University and will be played at the Big League Dreams complex in Cathedral City, Calif.
