Sam Puryear Named Men' Golf Assistant Coach

Stanford, Calif. - Sam Puryear has joined the Stanford men's golf staff as an assistant coachannounced head coach Conrad Ray.
'Sam Puryear brings a wealth of unique personal experience to theStanford Men's Program,' said Ray. 'Sam loves to work with kids and his passion for doing things the right way will be infectious. The fact thatSam's position is the first ever full time assistant coach dedicatedsolely to the Men's Golf Team speaks to his qualifications and isexciting for all of us. Sam will help us achieve the high goals wehave set for the entire program.'
Puryear most recently was executive director of the East Lake Junior GolfAcademy in Atlanta, Georgia, where he oversaw the development of golfinstruction and curriculum for the academy which served 700 youth. While atthe academy, he created a Pro-Am charity classic and introduced the game ofgolf to over 1,000 urban youth in the East Lake community.
Before working at the academy, Puryear was a District Executive for the BoyScouts of America in Louisville, Kentucky, where he created an inner-citygolf tournament and hosted golf clinices using local club professionals toassist underprivileged youth.
Puryear received a bachelor of science from Tennesse State University in1992 where he was a four-year letterwinner for the golf team. He captainedthe team in 1991 and was a three-year reipient of the university's HighestGard Point Average Award.
