First-day UCLA men's indoor track & field results from the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships, held at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle, WA.
The UCLA men were led by junior Brandon Johnson who had the fastest time in the 400m qualifying, running an NCAA Provisional mark of 46.60. The long jump final was a highlight event for the Bruins, as three UCLA jumpers picked up 13 team points.
Art Venegas' UCLA men are ranked No. 18 in the U. S. and the Bruins are competing to win their fifth consecutive MPSF title. After the first day's scoring, UCLA is in second-place with 26 points, trailing only host Washington (41).
On Friday, the men's competition featured four finals and six preliminary events, along with four events in the heptathlon.
5000m - All-American sophomore Austin Ramos ran an NCAA Provisional time (13:57.55, indoor best), placing third and earning six team points for the Bruins. Freshman Kyle Shackleton placed 17th, in an indoor best 14:39.11.
Distance Medley Relay- The Bruins picked up three team points, placing sixth (9:57.50). Running for UCLA were junior Micky Cobrin, sophomore James Rhoades, sophomore Matt Stollenwerk and sophomore Mike Haddan.
Long Jump- UCLA tallied 13 points in this event. Sophomore Dominique Easterling placed third (six team points), with a mark of 23-10.75 (indoor best). Sophomore Michael Johnson, Jr. was fifth (four team points), jumping 23-9 (indoor best) and senior Demetre Howard placed sixth (three team points), with a leap of 23-4.50. Freshman Alex Pearlstone finished 13th (22-9, indoor best).
Weight Throw- Freshman Boldizsar Kocsor placed fifth, earning four team points, with an effort of 57-7.75. Senior Jake Knight finished ninth (55-1.50) and sophomore John Caulfield was 11th (54-3.75).

400m - in his first 400m race this indoor season, two-time junior All-American Brandon Johnson qualified for Saturday's final by running the best time (46.60, winning heat two), an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and his best indoor time.
Senior two-time All-American Craig Everhart won heat five (46.73, second-bestqualifying mark/his best time this indoor season is an NCAA Provisional 46.65).Also qualifying was freshman Elijah Wells (47.69). Not qualifying for Saturday's final were sophomore James Rhoades (48.05, indoor best) and sophomore David Shipp (49.45, indoor best).
800m - UCLA had two qualifiers for Saturday's final - senior All-American ErikEmilsson (1:50.54) and sophomore Mike Haddan (1:51.86, indoor best).60m Hurdles- no entries
