No. 11 Bruins Blank Wildcats, 7-0

Feb. 24, 2006

Tucson, Ariz. - Playing its first out of state match of the season, the No. 11 UCLA women's tennis team turned in one of its strongest performances of the year Friday, taking a 7-0 decision over Arizona at the Robson Tennis Center. With the win, UCLA improves its record to 6-2 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 9-1 overall.

The Bruins got things started in doubles play, taking victories on all three courts to claim a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.

UCLA, which features five players ranked in the ITA top-100, proved too much for the Wildcats in singles as well, winning in straight sets on four of six courts. Laura Gordon, Tracy Lin, Alex McGoodwin and Elizabeth Lumpkin all posted straight-set wins. Riza Zalameda (court No. 1) and Ashley Joelson (court No. 5) both dropped first sets before coming back to win in three.

UCLA next heads to Tempe to take on No. 17 Arizona State on Saturday at Noon.
