Canizares Looks to Repeat Last Year's First Place Finish

Tempe, Ariz. - Looking to continue a strong showing in their spring campaign, the Arizona State University men's golf team travels to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico to compete in the 2006 Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 26-28. Sun Devil Alejandro Canizares will look to repeat his first place finish in last year's tournament.

The 54-hole event, hosted by Purdue, will take place at the par 72, 6,945-yard River Course at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The 20 team field for the 2006 Puerto Rico Classic includes: Alabama, Arizona State, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, N.C. State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Texas, and Virginia Tech.

Competing for ASU is last year's individual champion Alejandro Canizares who is averaging a team best 71.28 strokes per round and Niklas Lemke, who is also averaging a respectable 72.17 strokes per round. Benjamin Alvarado Holley, Ryan Kelley and Lenny Park are also competing for ASU.
