Helen Silver Wins 200 Back Title on Final Day of Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior Helen Silver swam a lifetime best time in the 200-yard backstroke to win the event on the final day of the Pac-10 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The No. 3 Cal squad wrapped up competition with six top 5 finishes at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
As a team, the Golden Bears finished fifth with 1082.5 points. Arizona captured the team championship (1325.5) followed by UCLA (1246.5), Stanford (1227) and USC (1162.5).
Silver won the 200 back in a time of 1:55.12. Freshman Lauren Rogers (1:57.86) finished fifth and senior Lauren Andrews (1:58.00) took sixth in the race. Freshman Lara Pease competed in the A consolation (11th, 1:59.91).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Reilly, Chandler, Andrews and Emily Silver took second in (3:18.01).
Junior Annie Babicz was fifth in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a 2:14.50. Freshman Jessica Hardy was first in the A consolation of the 200 breast in 2:15.23. Sophomore Genevieve Patterson competed in the B consolation, finishing in 2:16.70 (19th).
Sophomore Jessica Cotton competed in the B consolation of the 1650, finishing in 17:34.06 (23rd).
Cal swimmers next travel to the 2006 NCAA Championships, which run from March 16-18 in Athens, Georgia.
